Games Games and More Games!

Hello Bookies!

Have you heard what has been happening in the library on a Tuesday and Thursday at lunchtime?  We've been having so much fun playing MEGA games, and doing lots of crafty activities, as well as cosying up in the warm reading a good book.

Mrs Kemp and I have decided to bring out the games at lunchtime, and there is a bit of a craze for Mancala happening!  Come along and learn how to play, or challenge another person to play.  So much fun!

You could also learn how to make a pom-pom book mark - we have plenty of wool, and all you need are wool, scissors and fingers.  I'll supply the wool and scissors but you'll have to supply the fingers!

Or you could come and check out the books on the New Books shelf.  There are some crackers there this week...  Whoops! You'll need to lie on your side to have a look at this photo :-)  No chance of falling asleep though as the new books are way too exciting for that!

One of my favourites is Motiti Blue and the Oil Spill which tells the story of a little penguin who was caught in oil when the container ship Rena sank off the coast near Tauranga.  It is a really cool book because it gives facts about the penguins and other wildlife that were affected by the oil slick, and how they were cleaned up, shows fabulous photos, and some sections are in Te Reo.

I also like the look of Julius Zebra - this book looks really funny - the publisher says...

From a smelly watering hole deep in the heart of the Serengeti to the ferocious clamour of the Colosseum, join Julius Zebra and his motley menagerie of friends as they gear up to be ... gladiators! Only if they win the love of the Roman crowds will they win back their freedom. But do Julius and his pals have what it takes to succeed in a world where only the meanest and toughest survive? Madagascar meets Gladiator in this exciting, action-packed and hysterically funny story brimming with entertaining Roman facts.

Sounds great, doesn't it?!  There are lots of other new books too - Billie B Brown and Barbie, poetry, Ninjago, facts about Meercats, being green, and having a holiday in Paris.

Also have a look at Big Game which will probably appeal mostly to senior boys - it looks awesome, and there is a movie coming out soon, based on the book.  Read an extract from the book right here, or check out the movie trailer below...

Well that's it from me, my little bookworms!  Happy reading!

Psssst... we have some exciting peeps coming to visit our school in the near future.  More news on that another day....

Hello Bookies!

How was your long weekend?  Great to have an extra day to play and read, wasn't it?!

Did you know that READING GIVES YOU SUPER-POWERS?!!!  Check out this video from the wonderful Dav Pilkey, creator of Captain Underpants, and long-time supporter of jokes about bottoms and stink-bombs!  See what Dav Pilkey says about how YOU can have super-powers!

Have a look at the delights on the new books shelf this week. I particularly love the book of fairy tales as all of the illustrations are made out of paper from books - they are stunningly beautiful!  What do you think? Gorgeous, huh?

And below is a picture of the new books shelf with all the lovely new books!  Check out the new Billy B Brown picture book, which I know will be very popular.  And there is a little book by  Andy Griffith and Terry Denton called Barky the Barking Dog, which is very funny. If you're interested in planes there is a cool book just for you - Super Planes.  Have a look and reserve one this week...

Happy reading, my little friends!  Try to stay dry!
