Hello again!

What a great selection of new books and magazines we have this week.

Calling all 1Directioners!  Check out the latest Upstart magazine - 1 Direction are on the cover, and you could win great 1D prizes if you can answer a few questions about the boys and send in your answers to the folk at Upstart magazine.  Have a look at the Upstart Bookworm section too, for reviews of the latest kids' books.

And we have the latest Fishing magazine - hands off, Mr Bach!

And in honour of Sparkle, Book Book and Mary, we've also got a NZ Lifestyle Block magazine which asks the question "Which is the best chicken? See the most beautiful, rare and best poultry in the country."  I think my chickens at home are the most beautiful, of course.  (Don't tell Sparkle, Book Book and Mary that though!)

On the book shelf this week, there is something for everyone.  Skullduggery Pleasant fans will be delighted to see the latest in the series, called Kingdom of the Wicked - it looks as scary as ever!

Judy Moody fans will have to prepare for the Judy Moodiest summer ever!  Did you see the movie?  Well, now you can read the book "Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer".  And if that's not enough, check out Judy's website www.judymoody.com.

If you like a great picture book, with a funny rhyming story, and a real kiwi flavour, check out the latest in the Kiwi Corkers series.  It's called "The Frog Footy Player", and puts a hilarious NZ spin on the old story The Frog Prince.  I know the teachers love to read these aloud to classes, so I'm sure you will have heard some of the others in the series.

And those of you who enjoy the hilarious Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton books will love their newest offering "The 26-Storey Treehouse", which is, of course, following on from "The 13-Storey Treehouse".  Lots of funny illustrations, and the stories will make you laugh out loud!  (Enormous inflatable underwear?)  If you like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, you'll love this too.   Have a look at this video in which Andy Griffiths gives you a guided tour of the 26-Storey Treehouse.  I'd love to go there!

OK. Here's your chance to win a prize.  The first five children to come to me, Mrs O'Leary in the library, and correctly answer one of the following questions will win a prize...
  • What did Baa Baa Smart Sheep convince Quirky Turkey to eat?
  • Who eats Snozzcumbers?
  • Who is Greg's best friend in The Diary of a Wimpy Kid?
Happy reading, Bookworms!

Happy Term 4, Bookworms!  It's lovely to see you all back looking gorgeous in your summer uniforms.  It won't be long until it's a bit warmer for those bare legs!

You may remember the prize-giving for our Oh The Places We'll Read photo competition at the last assembly.  Just as a reminder, the results are as follows:

The winner of our Manipulated Photo category is Alliyah Baluyot(Room 3), who managed to put a photo of herself reading onto the huge billboard in Piccadilly Circus in London.  Very imaginative!

Mr Macmillan and I couldn't decide between two photos in the Static Photo category, so we have joint winners, as follows:

Olivia Hurford and Lauren Elliott (Room 9) with a gorgeous photo of Olivia looking very comfortable reading in amongst the ferns and flowers of the garden.

And.....

Katie O'Leary and Olivia Hurford (Room 9) with a funny photo of Katie sitting reading a magazine about chickens, with her chicken, Delilah, on her knee!

Room 9 won Best Class both for their great photos, and the number of entries in the competition. I would love to see Silent Reading time in that class, because apparently the children just LOVE to read on the monkey bars, sliding down poles, up trees... crazy kids! :-)

And finally, Mrs Todd won Best Teacher entry for her fabulous photo of herself, reading Harry Potter at Hogwarts!  How exciting, Mrs Todd!  Did you get to meet Harry, or Dumbledore, or Voldemort?

Well done, everyone!  I love that you all like to read in odd places, but mostly I just love that you like to read!

Look out for my next post where I will tell you about some of the great new books in the library this week.

Plus, you could win a prize if you answer a mystery question...

Keep watching!  And most of all, keep READING!!!
